To apply for the General Fund the applicant must belong to a not-for-profit organisation with a formal legal structure or be a not-for-profit charitable trust registered with the Charities Commission.
Applicants must first file an Expression of Interest form which is considered by our General Manager. Please check our eligibility test requirements, then download, complete and return the Expression of Interest form.
After reviewing the Expression of Interest, we ask eligible applicants to complete a more comprehensive application for funding on a form which we supply.
Expressions of Interest are accepted year-round, but decisions on support are only made at Board of Trustee meetings in March and September. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with our deadlines, which are December 31 (for the March Board meeting) and 30 June (for the September Board meeting) in order that you leave enough time to complete and submit all phases of your application. Please carefully read the application requirements here.
Musicians in Need Fund
To apply for assistance from the Musicians in Need fund, the applicant must be someone who has contributed to the New Zealand music industry (or someone wholly dependent on them) and can provide two referees of standing within the industry to confirm the applicant’s credentials in this regard.
The assistance provided via the Musicians in Need Fund takes many forms and is tailored to the needs of the individual.
All information gathered through the application process is strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any other individual or organisation without the applicant’s permission. To assist the approval process some details of each application are shared with the members of the Musicians in Need Approval Committee, which ultimately decides how and if assistance is to be provided. However, only the General Manager is ever aware of the applicant’s name. All information provided is anonymised and decisions are made based on the circumstances of each particular case.
Musicians in Need Fund support can include assistance with medical services, funerals, respite care, household effects, equipment, household alterations and more. This list is not exhaustive. In most circumstances, Musicians in Need Fund assistance is provided as a package of support delivered at one time to the applicant.
Musicians in Need Fund grants may also be made by the Trust board at any point, of its own volition and independent of any application, but in accordance with our over-riding principles and philosophy.
Musicians in Need Fund assistance is granted year-round. For more detail see the Musicians In Need Fund page.
